Learning about Volcanoes-2nd Class

Yesterday, as part of our learning about Italy, 2nd Class learned about Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius. The children learned how a volcano is formed and why/how it erupts (the gases inside the volcano mix with the magma and pressure builds up inside just like shaking a fizzy drink and then opening the bottle). To explore this further, we took to the yard to mix the gas from a fizzy drink with mentos sweets (our magma) and much to our surprise, just like a volcano, look what happened.....
