Science-2nd Class

We absolutely love science here in 2nd class. 2 weeks ago we studied static electricity and used combs to move paper without touching it and we also bent running water using the combs too. It was like magic!!

This week, we were learning about Autumn. We learned that in Autumn, some birds migrate to warmer countries. The birds that stay here find it difficult to find food so we made our own bird feeders! Using toilet roll holders, peanut butter and bird seeds, we worked together to make the feeders which we then hung in the school garden! Hopefully the birds find them yummy!!

Maths Week-2nd Class

Maths week was last week here in GETNS and to celebrate we undertook lots of active and engaging activities! Firstly, we were learning about square corners so we thought of ways to use our bodies to show what square corners are....

We then went outside the classroom to find and record square corners. We found them in all sorts of places....

We then used some shopping magazines to create a Halloween party list. We had a limit of €20 to spend and we used our maths skills by estimating and rounding the prices of each item and then adding up the total price...

Lastly, we went on a maths trail around the school. We had to estimate the answers to questions such as; how many windows are in the school, how many doors etc. We then counted and measured! We had lots of fun during maths week!!!!

Art-2nd Class

Last week in 2nd class we were learning about the community. As part of this, we created our own communities as part of our art lesson. Using all the recyclable materials which you all kindly sent in (thank you again!), we worked in our groups to create imaginative buildings which form part of the community such as schools, fire stations, police stations, houses etc. Here's some pictures of our imaginative creations!
